The first time author Louis Romano introduced us to John Deegan was in his book Intercession, the start of the Vic Gonnella series.

A character that intrigues, has a great mind, and while being a serial killer, still conquers the hearts of many readers.

So, who is John Deegan?

He is John Joseph Deegan, the second born of six children to Jack Joseph Deegan and Maureen Duffy. Primarily Irish with some German ancestry. He grew up in the Bronx, New York.

He was the chosen one. Or at least he was made to feel that way by his sainted mother.

From as early as he could remember, he had been determined to be a priest and climb all the way to the Vatican as a cardinal, or perhaps even higher. His mother was bound and determined to make her son a priest and get herself into heaven.

In the second grade of Catholic elementary school, he became the target and eventually the victim of a pedophile priest. This changed the course of his life and the lives of many others, as he would tell.

In high school, being the most studious of his class and the most compliant, his molester passed him on to his boss, the bishop.

After graduation (he was class valedictorian), he fulfilled his mother’s wishes by attending Villanova University. After completing his undergraduate studies, he entered the seminary. More exposure to sexual deviation forced him to leave and enter the United States Army.

He wound up, due to his so-called genius-level aptitude, being assigned to Special Operations, a euphemism for becoming a covert, well-trained murderer. He did such a good job of disguising himself and killing that the government wanted him to stay on and continue his clandestine work.

Instead, he took his so-called genius to Wall Street and made millions. Sorry, he made billions. Then I sold everything and retired. Now he could do whatever he wanted, wherever he wanted.

What he really wanted, more than anything, was revenge. I had no wife, kids, or hobbies…

He started his mission of vengeance with the first priest who molested him. He sent him to the devil by using a hand-sharpened wooden crucifix.

It was beyond straightforward enjoyment. He discovered that he liked, no, he loved killing his molester. The decision to continue on a crusade of taking revenge for other children and vulnerable adults took him to the level of being the most wanted serial killer on the planet.

His killing spree brought him inside the walls of the Vatican and to infamy.

The more he killed, the more he enjoyed it…
